TO ALL BENCHMARK EMPLOYEES FROM ALEX CABAÑAS, CEO

Unprecedented, hard-to-believe, this-too-shall-pass – we’ve all heard these various phrases and words, and many more, to describe the reality we are all facing. Just three weeks ago, none of these COVID-19 generated worries were on our minds. Needless to say, we are all learning and adapting daily to this unique reality, as it changes with every morning we awake and every night we try our best to rest. Thank you all for your dedication to each other and our guests through this unprecedented time. As we’ve seen in the past, it is these situations that can often bring out some of the best in humanity.

UNITED HEALTH CARE VIRTUAL VISITS

As it relates to COVID-19, Virtual Visits providers are prepared to help guide members who think they may have been infected by COVID-19 (also referred to as coronavirus or 2019-nCoV).

  • For patients presenting with fever and acute respiratory illness and symptoms, Virtual Visits providers are requesting a detailed travel history and contact history.
  • While Virtual Visits providers are unable to conduct COVID-19 diagnostic testing services– and therefore cannot confirm diagnoses – Virtual Visits providers will contact the appropriate public health department in accordance with local reporting requirements. The public health department will take the lead to initiate diagnostic testing and guide people on any quarantine requirements.
  • No specific treatment for COVID-19 infection is indicated at this time; Virtual Visits providers will provide supportive care to relieve symptoms for affected patients, addressing both physical and mental health needs. Most cases will be mild and safely managed via an at-home care plan. Home care will greatly reduce the chances of viral spread. Patients are encouraged to contact Virtual Visits providers should they have follow-up questions, or in the event that their symptoms progress.
  • For cases where in-person care is needed, Virtual Visits providers will navigate patients to appropriate resources and encourage patients to “let them know before you go” so that the in-person care facility can direct them appropriately and minimize potential exposure for others. If the patient needs to be seen and cannot manage on their own, providers will follow 911 protocols: 24/7 support teams will support the physician, patient and emergency medical services to communicate that the patient could have COVID-19.
  • Virtual Visits providers will adjust their process, as appropriate, based on evolving Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidance.
